The iPad could be the heart of a wonderful solution, but Apple has it so locked down that it's not worth using as photo viewer in the field. They also can setup a wifi ad hoc network for use with an Eye-Fi. They can run full-blown ViewNX (or Lightroom, or whatever you like). Both have screen hinges that let them fold in such a way that they resemble a tablet in size and weight. Both are legitimate Windows computers (Win 7 now Win 8 ready).

I think that in the long run, the solution for proofing-on-the-fly on a large bright screen (on a very portable device like a tablet) is to buy something like the Lenovo Yoga or the Dell Duo. However, if I'm the only one that needs to see them, it's more convenient just to pop out the "jpg card" and insert into the Thinkpad. mother of the bride) see the pics as they're shot.

If I were a pro shooting brides (yuck!), I could see the Eye-Fi being useful to let a third party (e.g. This has not turned out to be as useful to me as I thought. I can then view my pics, even in full sunlight, on a nice big screen. I pull out my "jpg card" (my Nikon D7000 has two SD card slots I usually shoot RAW+JPG on everything, with the camera writing raw to one card and jpg to the other) and put it in the Thinkpad. I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet (an Android tablet simiilar in size and format to an iPad), in part for viewing my shots in the field.
